Who we are
SewGreen Rochester is a 501(c)(3) fiber arts thrift store and community space founded in 2015 by Georgia Carney located on W Main Street in Rochester, NY. The center-most mission of our organization is to empower and extend the sovereignty of our neighbors of all ages by teaching vital skills in the fiber arts (sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, mending, tailoring, etc), and making materials for these skills financially accessible.
In addition, we hope to promote environmentally sustainable practices that both redirect old/unwanted fiber arts materials to SewGreen giving them a second chance at life; and prevent the disposal of textile goods that can be mended or repurposed.
SewGreen offers a wide variety of all-inclusive classes spanning from the very basics in sewing, crocheting, and knitting, to more complex fiber art forms such as Kawandi quilting. To supplement these weekly classes, the shop also holds space for weekly club meetings (Open Sew, Crochet Club, Knitting Club) where neighbors can come to seek support with their ongoing fiber arts project or simply work in community.
